Dress up your doors for the winter.

Updated: Jan 22

Dress up your home for the winter

When we say, “dress up,” we don’t just mean to style your front door with colorful decoration and wreaths, although tis the season. In the same way that you bundle up in a winter coat during chilly weather, you should do something similar for your home. Your home needs to be wrapped up in the winter like you do. When the chilly weather starts to chill you, use that as a reminder to check on other items in your home so that you can help them to keep the cold and weather out more efficiently. See our recommendations below on how to maintain your doors and trim.

Keep the warm air inside by following these steps:

1.      Check, and update if needed, the weatherstripping around your doors and windows. It is important to plug up any drafts. Replace your door seals, sweeps or thresholds to keep the cold outside.

2.      If you detect drafts from your base or ceiling trim, caulk around baseboards and crown moulding.

3.      Doggie doors are convenient and can be a source of cold air

a.      Use silicone caulk to close any air gaps

b.      Add weatherstripping around doggie door frame

c.      Add magnets to the bottom of the door flaps so they stay in place

d.      Reinforce flimsy door flaps – add a second flap if you only have one.

Use these methods to keep yourself, your home, your family, friends, and fur babies warm all year long.

Keep your pets cozy this winter
